Spring Migration Bird Walk Series at Lake Fayetteville (Apr 29-May 17)

Celebrate peak spring migration at Lake Fayetteville with casual, drop-in bird walks hosted by the Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society. Local birders lead relaxed outings at a prime regional hotspot to watch warblers and other seasonal travelers. Walks begin from the parking area at the Northshore Disc Golf Course, no registration is needed and beginners are welcome... just bring binoculars and curiosity. The route is an easygoing 1 to 2 mile stroll on uneven dirt paths and mowed fields, heading east from the parking area along the treeline on the north side of the lake. The group typically makes it near the ONSC Environmental Center before turning back. If arriving after the start, it is usually simple to find the group by following the shoreline trees to the east and looking for people with binoculars. The walk loops back to the parking area, and participants can peel off earlier or stay longer as they prefer. If heavy rain or lightning is in the forecast, treat the outing as cancelled and use personal judgement, as no special notices will be issued.

King River Falls Natural Area Wildflower Walk

Enjoy a guided walk along a branch of the Kings River on a roughly two mile out and back trail to take in seasonal blooms. Wild azaleas are expected to be flowering, with larkspurs, bluestars, and Jack in the Pulpit adding color along the way. Umbrella Magnolia, Smoke Tree, and Ninebark can also be found in this area. The route sits on ANHC property beside the river, so the ground is uneven and can be slick after rain, and the overall difficulty falls between easy and moderate. The walk is led by Samantha Heller and Evan Walden. From the south, take Hwy 16 to Boston, then continue north on Madison County Roads 3175 and 3145 for 4.5 miles and turn left on CR 3500 a short distance to the Kings River Falls parking area. From the north, take AR 127 off Hwy 23 at Aurora and follow it as it becomes Madison 3345, then about 10.5 miles from Aurora turn right onto Madison 3500 and continue about 1.5 miles to the parking area.

Get Back into Crochet

Pick up your hook again with a crochet refresher designed for those who have stitched before and want to feel comfortable again. In two focused hours, you will make a few simple granny squares while reviewing how to select yarn and match it with the right hook size. You will revisit comfortable hand placement for long term ease, how basic stitches come together, and how to change colors with confidence. This session is not intended for someone who has never tried crochet. Please bring yarn in at least two compatible colors, hooks, scissors, stitch markers, and a pen and paper for notes. If you have a pattern you want to explore, bring it to get questions answered. A take home handout will help you remember the steps later. Instructor Debra DeVilbiss has crocheted for nearly seventy years and has worked with materials ranging from yarn and twine to wire and sewing thread. She holds certification as a Crochet Teacher from the Craft Yarn Council and is the founding creative director of Bella Vista in Bloom, an annual citywide yarn bomb art project. Her thread and bead crochet jewelry can be found in her Etsy shop, Larkbunting Lace. Expect hands on guidance that goes further than video tutorials.

Spring Migration Bird Walk Series at Lake Fayetteville (Apr 29-May 17)

Organized by the Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society, these casual, drop-in morning bird walks at Lake Fayetteville highlight peak spring migration at a well known Northwest Arkansas birding hotspot as warblers and other migrants pass through. Guided by local birders, each outing moves at an easy pace for roughly one to two miles on uneven dirt paths and mowed fields. The group typically departs east from the North Shore Disc Golf Course parking lot along the treeline on the north side of the lake and often turns around near the ONSC Environmental Center. No registration is required and all experience levels are welcome. Binoculars are recommended. If you arrive after the start, it is usually simple to find the group by following the shoreline trees to the east and watching for people with binoculars. Heavy rain or lightning cancels and there will be no special cancellation notice, so use your judgment. Participants may leave early or stay longer as needed. Leaders for this series include Robert Peck, Taylor Long, Lauren Eno, Kenny Younger, and Josh Matlock.

Flexing Down 49 Tour - Northshore

The Flexing Down 49 Tour brings a PDGA-sanctioned Flex Start C-Tier stop to Northshore Disc Golf Course, where a single rated round earns points toward the series and a chance to compete for major payouts at the finale. The official leaderboard and complete rules will be announced. All participants need to check in with the Tournament Director before teeing off. Cards are formed at check-in and course guidelines are covered. Beginning play without TD approval can result in disqualification without a refund. Registration is available online or on site, and early online signup qualifies players for Closest-To-The-Pin challenges. On-site payments are accepted by cash, card, or Venmo. The entry fee is $30, allocated as $17 to the event purse, $8 to fees, and $5 reserved for the Tour Finale payout. Players may also enter an optional $5 ace pot. Ace pot participants are eligible for a payout if they record a hole-in-one during competition. If no aces are made, the pot rolls to the next Arkansas Flex Start event. If multiple aces are hit, the pot is split evenly among those players. Payouts are funded by $17 from each entry and awarded to the top 45 percent of each division based on the PDGA payout scale. Pro divisions are paid in cash or digitally. Amateur divisions receive merchandise credit redeemable with the on-site Disc Golf Dojo pro shop. Results and payouts will be posted to Disc Golf Scene once all rounds are complete. Credit may be used the same day or at a future Disc Golf Dojo event, and amateur credit expires two years from the award date. A concurrent Flex Start Doubles option is also offered, unsanctioned, with Pro and Am divisions. Register the team with a single entry and list both players under the name field. Doubles has a separate ace pot, scoring is kept in a UDisc event, and the top third of each division receives payout, with cash for pros and store credit for amateurs.
