TMBA’s Travel Club plans a group ride at Chewacla State Park in Auburn, Alabama, offering riders a chance to experience terrain beyond their local trails as a day trip, with the option to stay longer if desired. The park features an extensive network of more than 20 miles that includes rock rolls, drops, flowy berms, jump lines, a large wall ride, and wooden features. Some trails are black diamond and can be highly technical, so participants should ride within their limits. Many features offer alternate lines, while others are part of the main route, so it is important to inspect features and choose lines carefully. Riders participate at their own risk. A lake and a waterfall are also on site and can serve as a cool place to wind down after riding. This outing is planned as a no drop ride that may divide into A and B groups based on turnout and skill level. Leaders familiar with the trail system and a designated sweep will guide the ride. Everyone will begin on easier green trails to warm up and get a feel for the terrain, including CCC and Creekview, then check gear, refuel, and head out for a longer route to be determined. The groups plan to meet back at the trailhead for lunch and recovery, then discuss one final longer lap. By the lunch break, many riders may have covered roughly 15 to 20 or more miles, depending on the group. Participants provide their own transportation and may choose to carpool to share expenses while coordinating departures and returns. Each person is responsible for gas and vehicle insurance. A $5 state park entry fee is collected at the gate. Bring your own bike, electric or non-electric, along with a helmet, lunch, trail snacks, and plenty of water. A hydration pack and extra water are recommended, as water fountains may not be available. Restrooms are available, and bringing a change of clothes can make the post-ride more comfortable.
